I can declare that...this is the best bake of mine so far!
not because of the taste or presentation..
it's the feel............................
After a bite...My mother and I were so touched..and nearly cried...
you will think that i'm exaggerating...but it's true...
Now i know why some pple say, you can feel the chef's love and hardwork in their food...
*sob sob*
It's a kind of wonderful emotional feeling~which i don't know how to describe further...
So here's my 老婆饼...
baked specially for my folks...including my in laws...

I think she can really feel my sincerity and love....
She ate 2 at one go...

Hi,
Just wondering did you used lard/shortenin/oil in your oil dough? I made an attempt on the same recipe too but used canola oil in the oil dough and it was very crumbly and dry-ish. You mentioned that you had some problems "mixing the oil dough as it's really crumbly....
but overcame the difficulty", could you please share with me how you managed to fix it?
Thanks!
Hi Serena! I think the dough was crumbly and hard, but when I wrapped it with the other dough, and flatten it, it was OK. cos since it's wrapped in there.
and i used shortening. so was the bake nice in the end?
Hi Big-Girlicious,
Thanks for your reply! Yes, the bake turned out ok, I loved the the taste of the filling and there were visible layers inside the pastry despite not using lard/shortening in the oil dough:

The problems were that the oil dough wasn't soft and smooth and that the combined doughs were a kind of hard to manage & rubbery, so the end pastry was a bit on the dry side.
Hihi Serena =)
Hmmm...i'm trying to recall whether i
ve added more shortening or not. Maybe not. And your lao po bing sure looks delicious!! better than mine!!
Mine doesn't have so many layers..i will definitely try it again in near future...
how long did u take to bake them? HAHA..i took quite a long time man~~ quite tiring...
do u have a blog!?
Thanks, but I think yours look tasty :) Yes the whole process was tiring, but definitely worth it. It took me hours to make (around 3-4), because it was my first attempt at chinese flaky pastry and I’m also just slow in general, haha. Will also try to attempt this recipe again sometime soon.
I don’t have a blog, but I love to read others (like yours), haha.
will u try dao sa bia? I wanna try that.but thats alot of work!more than this..cos its tiny..
hey and thanks for supporting my blog.my baking journey will resume in my new house..stay tuned! =)
I don't think I will try to make dou sa pia anytime soon, haha but it's definitely on my to-do list. I think I will try to make spiral pandan pastries next, similar to the teochew yam spiral mooncake you made.
I look forward to reading about your upcoming baking adventures! :)
Wah can share with me the pandan recipe after u've tried..Sounds so good! =)
I hope that i can bake soon! my hands are itchy!!!!
